Meet Tonya & Tyler Harrison.
Married February 06, 2010 on Pawleys Island.
. . .
Brie and I go back many many years and our families have been good friends since we were in elementary school. Our families eventually moved apart and ‘life’ took over. That is…until a couple months ago when I heard she was moving to Charleston and is now getting married (to an awesome guy) in Charleston! So over the past few months the four of us have all had a blast hanging out and getting to know one another, and Jenna and I both are pumped for their wedding. Brie and Cory aren’t just fun to be around, but they immediately make you feel like family and just enjoy being alive!
We had a great time with their engagement shoot over the weekend! As you can see, I loved too many…
Shooting on rainy, cold days isn’t always “ideal”. It’s cold, the dampness doesn’t allow for hair to cooperate, or so I’m told, and typically, no one wants to dress “appropriately” for the weather, because after all, who wants pictures in their parka?! So, as our shoot with Jennifer and Drew approached, I wasn’t thrilled with the weather report. But, they were awesome, braved the cold, and we had a good time shooting!
There aren’t a lot of ‘certainties’ in life, but one certainty with photography is that there’s always something to learn or improve on!
I love all the possibilities and the creativity you can have when using different types of lighting. However, those ‘types’, so to speak, are endless and sometimes challenging to pick up on. So when I heard CVI Studio was hosting a lighting workshop given by my friend and lighting expert Chris Smith, I jumped at the chance to spend some time with some fellow photogs and learn a few - several - things. I had an awesome night - it was both educational and fun - and I’m looking forward to trying out a few things I picked up!
I took more notes than pictures, but here are a couple images from the night…
Thanks again, Chris and Virgil for putting on the show!
This past weekend we drove up to Murrells Inlet to spend some time with Kristy and Kirk and see where they will be getting married in May. It was a beautiful day and being there, as well as simply spending time with them, made us excited for ‘wedding season.’ Their church sits right on the water, which will be perfectly lit by the setting sun when the ceremony concludes. And their reception location, on the Waccamaw River is quaint and elegant - a killer spot for a reception. (Can I use ‘elegant’ next to ‘killer’…?) I can’t wait to photograph and capture it all. It’s going to be perfect!
Their beautiful church… Excited!
Today was…well…just gross. We had an engagement shoot scheduled with an awesome couple, but because of the rain, we decided to hold off until a more pleasant day. So while I was bummed, it gave Jenna and I the chance to enjoy a cup of coffee at one of our favorite spots - Metto Coffee & Tea - and chat about a few things we have in the works. It was a good substitute, as there’s nothing better than just hanging out with my girl!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Finally!!! We have been waiting to debut this shoot since the end of November! These images were used as part of our parents’ Christmas gifts, so we had to keep them hidden for awhile. As you may or may not know, the smash cake is one of the main events at every first birthday party. The idea is that the one year old has never had cake before, so they get their own little cake to eat however they’d like, which usually results in lots of personality showing through and a huge mess that’s just tons o’ fun! I had a vision of Eli’s smash cake sometime late last summer (His birthday isn’t until November 23, mind you!) and knew we would want to document this fabulous occasion in a special way.
So on Eli’s actual birthday, Matt, my mom (Eli’s entertainment), and I set everything up and had our first official Smash Cake Shoot! In addition to the cake smashing, I wanted to be sure that we really captured the essence of Eli at one year. As a mom, I’m so afraid I’m going to forget the little things that make Eli “Eli” — his expressions, mannerisms, favorite things, sweet little toes. As you’ll see in the first few images, “Pup Pup” joined us for part of the shoot, which will always remind us of our sweet boy’s first year.
As Eli’s mommy and daddy, as well as photographers, we were thrilled with the results of this shoot and are so excited to offer it to you! So from here on out, we will officially offer First Birthday Smash Cake Shoots, which will also include a non smashing mini shoot. We will provide a dreamy little cake, which I will work with you to design, decide on the location and the look and feel you want, and let your little munchkin go to town! Please shoot us an email if you’re interested!

**Special thanks so Molly at D’Lish Desserts for creating Eli’s amazing smash cake!
I like these two. They are both great people and when around them, you can feel that they’re into each other. We had so much fun shooting and hanging out, and we are super excited for their wedding in May! Not just to be shooting it, but we’re excited for them as well. Their journey to each other has been long and difficult at times, but it’s obvious that God has his hand on their relationship and will continue to bless them into their journey of marriage. This is just the beginning of an awesome adventure!

Oh. My. Perfect. You may remember Emily Reese and her perfectly puckered lips, super sleepiness, and tiny hands and feet from her new born session several months ago. I had the honor of photographing her again for her 3 month portraits, and she’s still just as perfect! The reason I LOVE baby portraits so much is that I think the closest we can get to perfection in this world is a baby. What an incredible privilege I have to capture that sweet perfection!
