You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle a last minute change of plans. Chris and Jessica had their hearts set on a beach wedding. Every detail had been planned for months. They knew how the chairs would be set up. The long boardwalk from the house would serve as the aisle that every little girl dreams of walking down to meet her soul-mate. The vision was becoming a reality… until the morning of the wedding, that is!
As Matt and I arrived at the beach house, we sensed that something was up. Before we even made our way to the bridal suite, several people stopped us to ask if we had seen the ceremony set-up. Huh? We had no clue. The ceremony is on the beach. Right??? A friend walked us to the back of the house and directed our attention to the portion of the beach where the ceremony was supposed to take place. Water. Lots of water! It was actually low (ish) tide, but the top half of the beach was flooded by a tidal pool. So, where exactly is the ceremony going to take place? Glad you asked! All of the guest chairs had been set up on the back porch of the house, and the “altar” would be at the top of the steps leading to the back door of the house. Fine with us! Let’s get this party started!
Ok, I just have to stop right here and say that I would have been freaking out if this had been our wedding! But not Jessica. She and Chris have been together for years (8, I think!), and they were just ready to make their commitment to each other official. I could tell she was rattled by the change of plans beneath the surface, but on the outside she was as cool as a cucumber. She had her girls, her glass of champagne, and the man of her dreams who would be waiting at the end of the aisle, no matter where it was. She was ready to go!
We could definitely feel God’s presence throughout the evening as we glanced out at the sun setting over the water. Although there was a flooded beach and threats of rain, it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous day! Thank you, Chris and Jessica, for allowing us to be part of your day!
